Factors that Change the Garage Drywall Cost 

There are just so many ways to use drywall. Calculating how much drywalling a garage can cost has a range of implications this depends on  the finishing you require and other considerations. • Drywall Type – There are various types of sheetrock on the market. The most popular ones include moisture-resistant, fire-resistant, and eco-friendly. If you prefer something non-standard, the price goes up, as well. 

• Ceiling Height – The garage drywall installation cost for high ceilings is often more expensive because it involves a more challenging finishing and hanging process. If your walls are 12 feet high, you spend more than if it was only 8 feet high. We often require lightweight sheetrock for taller ceilings, which costs extra. 

• Insulation – Canada’s building codes require you to insulate the space, which adds to the drywall garage cost you pay. Those materials are extra, and you also pay for the installation.

• Garage Shape – It’s ultimately cheaper to drywall a four-corner garage than one with ceiling cutouts, windows, and extra doors. Likewise, garages that have abnormal shapes, such as curves and arches, cost more than the average price. That’s because the job is much harder and takes more effort and materials to complete. 

• Attached or Detached – The drywalling a garage cost can change if the garage is attached to your home, such as through the kitchen, den, or living room. How We Finish the Bottom of Drywall in a Garage 

Finishing drywall is just one of many steps we must take. There are varying finishes available, ranging from 0 to 5 and different finishing levels can be applied to one sheet of drywall if needed. Here are the levels available, which can help you determine the price and what you need: 

• Level 0 – There are no accessories, finishing, or taping. It’s often used for temporary construction purposes and isn’t suitable for garages. 

• Level 1 – We use a single coat of tape with joint compound around the interior angles and joints. Typically, this is used in attics and in areas above the ceiling. 

• Level 2 – You get a double coating of the joint compound over fastener heads, interior angles, accessories, and joints. This is often where we stop for garages unless you want texture. 

• Level 3 – If you want garage wall texture, we often stop here. This gives you tape in the joint compound and one more coating applied to the interior angles and joints. Then, two coats are added to accessories and fastener heads. 

• Level 4 – We often use this level when painting drywall in a garage with flat paint and light texture. 

• Level 5 – We add a skim coating of joint compound to the whole surface to make it as smooth as possible. When painting garage walls with enamel, semi-gloss, gloss, and non-textured paint, this is the best solution. 

Typically, we also do extra work to finish the bottom of drywall in a garage. This requires us to seal up the area underneath the sheetrock so that air doesn’t seep inside. There are various options available here. For example, we can add drywall mud to the screws and trim or apply a waterproofing coating along the area where the floor meets the drywall.
